Waheguru Jee Ka Khalsa Waheguru Jee kee Fateh
I was born & raised in a Gursikh family. Although, not anyone amritdhari, but Gurbani was the essence of this middle class household. I am youngest of 2 sisters & 2 brothers. my mom & dad had their Amrit velaa parpakk since the time even unknown to them. They used to & still use to wake up at 4 in morning, recite 5 baaneeyaa, visit local Gurdwara for Aasaa Dee vaar ( few chhakkey) & then back to serve us siblings breakfast & prepare us for school /college.
We had a hard RULE in our family... We had to Do Japji sahib daa paath before we could eat our breakfast. My mom was very special of it. She used to cook the BEST BREAKFAST her kids liked Gajrelaa (carrot Cake), Square paraanthee with javaayen, Egg (Sunny Side up)....BUT would never gave any of us UNTIL we finished our Japjee saahab daa Paath. I don't want to forget to mention that I used to SKIP Similar PauRRees of SUNNEYE or Maney or Asankh or Aades Tise Aades depending upon my hunger & greed.
Sidewise , in our record players, my mom used to play Sukhmani saahab daa paathh & then Aasaa Dee Vaar Daa record...& as long as we were home same tunes kept on going into our ears & heart. And Gurbanee kept on doing its hidden work of Paaras Kalaa.
Then my elder Sister got married and she got married away in a different town, far from my crying mom, who used to refill her with tears whenever we used to talk about our vaddey deedee, a few times a day & then she used to wipe her tears by saying a small ardaas that WAHEGURU JEE meree bachee dey ang sang rehnaa.
I was very young, me & my elder sister has a big year difference and I used to ask my mom, Waheguru Jee enee door baithh ke deedee dee raakhee kive kardey han? My Mom told me saakhees of Bhagat Prehlaad, Bilee dey Bache vaalee...& many more to instill faith in Ardaas.

One day I was passing by our gurudwara saahab & a tune of Shabad was being played
Har Meree Preet Reet Hai Har Meree
Har Meree Kathaa Kahaanee Jee ~ Har Meree Kathaa Kahaanee Jee
Tune was so simple & piercing that I forgot the work I was going for & went inside. I found AKJ Gursikhs engrossed in weekly aasaa dee vaar samaagam & it was really inspiring. When I was in 11th grade I used to watch a gursikh senior whose Kirpaan Gaatraa used to shine underneath his spotless White Shirt and One day I asked him I also want to chhak amrit but I am confused whether to eat meat or not, after that ? He replied, that the ONLY ESSENCE, a basic PREREQUISITE for AMRIT is Bharosaa (Faith) in Preetam Pitaajee Dhan Dhan Guru Gobind Singh Saaheb. and if HE will surely guide you through in all decisions & ways of life. I admired that Singh's reply.
12th April, I finished taking my 12th grade Exams, for which i had studied very hard. That very night I resolved to CHHAK AMRIT on 13th April & read Jaap Saahab For the first time. Having Chhaked Amrit on 13th, I cried a lot in joy, in vairaag, in Bliss, in whatever state of mind i was in, I was REBORN.
I started attending all Naam Simran Samagams, akhand keertan Samagams, RaiNNsabaayees whether its Dodra/AKJ/Prof. Darshan Singh or any other samagam I used to make myself attend the samagams. And regardless of anyone's opinions on any particular group I always attend all GurbaNNee and Simran related samagams.
