Falsehood of Islam – A Response to Muslims

Bijla Singh

This article is written in response to an article written by Muslims questioning the true path of Sikhi. This article will not only answer the objections and questions raised by Muslims but also show them the true face of Islam which is nowhere near tolerance, peace, equality and justice as falsely preached by Muslims. We invite our Muslim brothers to read it with an open mind so that they can understand Sikhi, a true way of life, and realize that Islam is a religion of an age when ignorance reigned supreme.

Point 1 - Equality in Sikhi

1) Muslims have failed to understand the concept of Khalsa and resorted to misinterpreting the translation.

Khalsa is an image of Guru Sahib. Guru Ji said:

"The Khalsa is my true form, I abide within the Khalsa"

Khalsa is he who only worships One Almighty, Waheguru and always follows the truth. In his heart, light of Waheguru always shines. The quote used by Muslims in no way claims that Khalsa is superior to others. It is merely describing qualities of a Khalsa and requirements for whosoever desires to become a member of Khalsa. Furthermore, the quote also rejects false and blind rituals such as pilgrimage and fasting but nowhere in the quote is it applied that those who engage in such rituals are inferior. Throughout Gurbani, Guru Sahib has stated that no human being is superior to the other as everyone has the same creator and same source of existence.

From the One Light, the entire universe welled up. So who is good, and who is bad? ||1|| (Ang 1349)

Nowhere in Gurbani is it stated that Sikhs are superior and others are inferior. Message of Guru Sahib is for everyone and does not make any distinction between human beings. Guru Gobind Singh Ji (whose quote Muslims deliberately misinterpreted) states that:

"The temple or the mosque are the same, the Hindu worship or the Musalman prayer are the same; all men are the same; it is through error they appear different. Deities, demons, Yakshas, heavenly singers, Musalmans and Hindus adopt the customary dress of their different countries. All men have the same eyes, the same ears, the same body, the same build, a compound of earth, air, fire, and water. Allah and Abhekh are the same, the Purans and the Quran are the same; they are all alike; it is the one God who created all. The Hindu God and the Muhammadan God are the same; let no man even by mistake suppose there is a difference." (Guru Gobind Singh, Akal Ustat)

Therefore, it is clear that only blind rituals and false beliefs are rejected not people as human beings.

2) Sikhi and Homosexuality

Bijla Singh would have us believe that Sikhism is open to all, and God will accept all, including homosexuals. However, this is proven a fallacy by the actions of the World Sikh Group, the Akal Takht,  who state regarding homosexuality : "The advice given by the highest Sikh temporal authority to every Sikh is saying that it is unnatural and ungodly, and the Sikh religion cannot support it.

This once again shows how narrow-minded and shortsighted Muslims really are. Sikhi teaches that Waheguru is without hatred (Nivair) and He loves everyone including homosexuals and atheists as nothing can exist without His will. It is absurd to believe that Waheguru (God) hates those who do not believe in Him. Sikhi embraces all and every single human being but this does not mean that Sikhi accepts their beliefs and practices. Rejection of an unholy and unnatural act such as homosexuality is totally different from rejection of a human being. In other words, homosexuality and gay marriage is against the teaching of Sikhi which is why such practices are rejected but this in no way is preaching hatred towards homosexuals. Homosexuals are allowed to become Sikhs so long they denounce their practice of homosexuality and adopt the Sikh way of life. This requirement applies to everyone equally. Akal Takhat Sahib rejected homosexuality not homosexuals as human beings.

Like any other religion, it promises a reward or spiritual attainment and fulfillment for those that adhere to it, and promises castigation and punishment for those that do not.

In response to this, the following Tuk (quote) from Gurbani is more than enough:

The body is the field of action, in this Dark Age of Kali Yuga; as you plant, so shall you harvest… O Siblings of Destiny, behold the justice of the True Creator; as people act, so they are rewarded. (Ang 308)

Who will be rewarded and saved by Waheguru? Here is the answer:

“Those enshrined the True Name within their heart, those within is the flowing current of Naam, and those whose consciousness is attached to the vibrations of the Guru's Baani obtain all comforts and liberation from Maya (the illusionary world). O Nanak! Without the Naam, no one is saved; You too swim across to the other side this true way in which there no chance of drowning. ||9||7||” (Ang 1013)

Sikhi makes it clear that without obtaining Naam no one will be saved even if one is born in a Sikh family. By obtaining Naam and living true way of life as taught by Guru Sahib one will be saved. Salvation is the true reward and there is no special reward such as 72 virgins and rivers of wine reserved for Sikhs in paradise.

It has been proven that Sikhi does not preach hatred towards non-Sikhs. However, the same cannot be said of Islam which is founded on the principle of inequality. Let’s examine some of inequalities preached by Islam.

i)   Hatred against Non-Muslims

Instead of preaching love, Islam teaches and spews unlimited amount of hatred towards non-Muslims.

"Believers, take neither Jews nor Christians for your friends. They are friends with one another. Whoever of you seeks their friendship shall become one of their number. Allah does not guide the wrongdoers." (5:51)

According to Muslims the above verse is applicable only during war time which is far from the truth. The following verses make it crystal clear what the implied meanings are.

"Mohammed is Allah's apostle. Those who follow him are ruthless to the unbelievers but merciful to one another." (48:29)

"When the sacred months are over slay the idolaters wherever you find them. Arrest them, besiege them, and lie in ambush everywhere for them. If they repent and take to prayer and pay the alms-tax, let them go their way. Allah is forgiving and merciful." (9:5)

And slay them (the infidels) wherever you catch them, and turn them out from where they have turned you out, for tumult and oppression are worse than slaughter. (2:193)

"O Prophet! Make war against the unbelievers [all non-Muslims] and the hypocrites and be merciless against them. Their home is hell, an evil refuge indeed." (9:73)

"In order that Allah may separate the pure from the impure, put all the impure ones [all non-Muslims] one on top of another in a heap and cast them into hell. They will have been the ones to have lost." (8:37)

Hence it is clear that Muslims are obligated to be ruthless and merciless to non-Muslims. Message of violence preached by Islam against non-Muslims is nowhere found in the Sikh beliefs.

No one is my enemy, and no one is a stranger. I get along with everyone. ||1|| (Ang 1299)

It has been stated before that Sikhi rejects anti-Sikhi practices but does not speak ill of any human being and does not preach killing or harming them.

ii)      Superiority of a Muslim over Non-Muslim

The life of a Muslim is considered superior to that of a non-Muslim, so much so that whilst a non-Muslim killing a Muslim would be executed, the reverse would not occur.

I asked 'Ali "Do you have anything Divine literature besides what is in the Qur'an?" Or, as Uyaina once said, "Apart from what the people have?" 'Ali said, "By Him Who made the grain split (germinate) and created the soul, we have nothing except what is in the Qur'an and the ability (gift) of understanding Allah's Book which He may endow a man with, and what is written in this sheet of paper." I asked, "What is on this paper?" He replied, "The legal regulations of Diya (Blood-money) and the (ransom for) releasing of the captives, and the judgment that no Muslim should be killed in Qisas (equality in punishment) for killing a Kafir (disbeliever)." (Bukhari, Narrated by Abu Juhaifa)

This is highly contrary to the Sikh beliefs. Guru Sahib teaches to respect other human beings with equality and honor as the light of Waheguru resides in everyone.

The Divine Light is within everyone; You are that Light. (Ang 663)

Recognize ye the whole human race as one. (Guru Gobind Singh Ji)

iii)      Jizya – Tax for Non-Muslims

Non-Muslims living in Islamic countries are forced to pay Jizya, a poll-tax in exchange for protection of their life, liberty and property. After paying Jizya (depending on wealth) non-Muslims are allowed to practice their religion under certain conditions. This rule makes it crystal clear that Islam does not recognize all human beings as one but considers non-Muslims to be inferior.

Fight those who believe not in God nor the last day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by God and His Apostle, nor acknowledge the religion of truth, (even if they are) of the people of the Book [Bible], until they pay the jizya with willing submission, until they pay the tribute out of hand and have been humbled (humiliated). Jews call Uzair [Ezra] a son of God, and the Christians call Christ the Son of God ... God’s curse be on them; (9: 29-31)

... Jews and the Christians ...should be forced to pay Jizya in order to put an end to their independence and supremacy so that they should not remain rulers and sovereigns in the land. These powers should be wrested from them by the followers of the true Faith, who should assume the sovereignty and lead others towards the Right Way. (Mawdudi, S. Abul A'la, The Meaning of the Qur'an, vol 2, page 183.)

Therefore, Islam openly advocates suppressing non-Muslims and keeping them as slaves.

iv)     Freedom of Choice – Hell for Non-Muslims

Most Western countries today guarantee complete religious liberty. In other words, a person is perfectly free to hold or change his opinions, or even hold no religious opinions whatsoever. Under Islamic law, however, this is not the case. A person is free to become a Muslim but he has no right to leave Islam and adopt any other faith. In such case, he faces death penalty in this world and in the next world, hell awaits them.

"Prophet, make war on the unbelievers and the hypocrites and deal rigorously with them.  Hell shall be their home:  an evil fire.  They swear by God that they said nothing.  Yet they uttered the word of unbelief and renounced Islam after embracing it.  They sought to do what they could not attain.  Yet they had no reason to be spiteful except perhaps because God and His apostle had enriched them through His bounty.  If they repent, it will indeed be better for them, but if they give no heed, God will sternly punish them, both in this world and in the world to come.  They shall have none on this earth to protect or help them." (Sura 9:73-74 )

Narrated Ikrima, "Some atheists were brought to Ali and he burnt them.  The news of this event, reached Ibn Abbas who said, "If I had been in his place, I would not have burnt them, as Allah's messenger forbade it, saying, "Do not punish anybody with Allah's punishment (fire)."  I would have killed them according to the statement of Allah's Messenger, "Whoever changed his Islamic religion, then kill him."

"It is reported by `Abaas ... that the messenger of Allah ... said, `Whosoever changes his religion (from Islam to any other faith), kill him." (Hadith Al-Bukhari)

This proves that Islam forbids a person to make his own choice and determine what is best for him. On the other hand, Sikhi does not condemn non-Sikhs to hell. Instead, their destiny is determined by their karma (actions).

As one plants, so does he harvest; the body is the field of actions. (Ang 706)

v)      Gender Inequality

Islam greatly favors men over women and gives them more rights.

‘Man is more perfect than the woman in creation, and intelligence, and in the religious sphere, such as the suitability to be a judge, and a leader in worship. Also, the testimony of the man is twice that of the woman. So that whoever is given great responsibilities must be given correspondingly great privileges. As the woman is deficient in intelligence and of great lust, if she is given much money, much corruption will be the result.’ Further support to this view can be found in the Hadith (Ibn Kathir, Commenting on Q. 4:34, this Hadith is also reported by Abu Dawood and al-Nisa'I and Ibn Magah.), the second most important book for Muslims.

The Verse above leaves no doubt that Quran considers men to be more intelligent and superior than women by birth. Women have less rights when it comes to testimony, inheritance and decision making process. More of this will be discussed later in this article.

The list of inequalities in Islam is a long one but above few points without a doubt prove that Islam is full of inequalities and a religion of injustice. On the contrary, Sikhi teaches humanity to love each other regardless of religion, or race. Sikhi does not teach hatred towards non-Sikhs and does not condemn them to hell just because they belong to a different religion.

A Sikh prays at least twice daily for "Sarbat Da Bhallaa", meaning the good and prosperity of all Humanity regardless of religion, belief or faith.

"May the Divine-Name preached by Nanak be exalted. May all prosper and be blessed within Your Will." (Daily Sikh Ardaas)

Muslims should consider themselves lucky to have such a beautiful path offered to them. It is for their own benefit to give up the incomplete and imperfect religion of Islam and adopt the Sikh way of life.

Point 2 - Women’s Rights in Islam

Muslims have tried their best to pick and choose some verses from Quran that justify their beliefs of equality which is far from the actual truth. In this section we look at women’s rights and the treatment they deserve according to Quran. One thing we want to make clear is that although men and women have physical differences and may have different duties in daily life but this in no way should prevent women from taking part in religious activities and enjoy all the rights that are given to men.

i)    Impurity

Muslims have greatly failed in addressing the impurity of women. Their justification is not only absurd but contrary to Quranic teaching. The quote from Quran is as follows:

They ask thee concerning women's courses. Say: They are a hurt and a pollution: So keep away from women in their courses, and do not approach them until they are clean. But when they have purified themselves, ye may approach them in any manner, time, or place ordained for you by Allah. Surely Allah loves those who turn much (to Him), and He loves those who purify themselves. (2:222)

Although the translation above is according to Islamic scholars but some Muslims, however, tend to go with a different interpretation. Even if for the sake of argument we take their version the question remains unanswered. According to them:

It is Blood itself in Islam is considered impure, and it is not explicit to Women’s Menses.

So if the blood is impure then how can a woman purify herself since the same blood flows through her body? In the last line of the quote it is written “He loves those who purify themselves”. So how can any human being let alone a woman purify himself if the very element that ensures our existence is impure?

On the other hand, Sikhi considers women to be as pure as men. The Gurus teachings say that one cannot be pure by washing the body but purity of mind is the real pureness.

They are not called pure, who sit down after merely washing their bodies. Only they are pure, O Nanak, within whose minds the Lord abides. ||2|| (Ang 472)

ii)    Prayer and Attire

Muslims claim that Muslim women are allowed to go to Mosques to pray but this is not an entire truth. In Mosques women have to stay in secluded rooms to pray and cannot join men in the same area. This does not represent equality.

A woman is closest to God’s face, if she is found in the core of her house. And the prayer of the woman in the house is better than her prayer in the mosque’ (Ihy'a 'Uloum ed-Din by Ghazali, Dar al-Kotob al-'Elmeyah, Beirut, Vol II, Kitab Adab al-Nikah, p. 65. Reported by Tirmizi as a true and good Ahadith)

On the other hand, Sikh women are not forced to pray in secluded rooms and have full right to sit in the same room as men. Safiyya Aslan realizing the equality given to Sikh women in Sikhi stated in “Women’s Space in the Mosque: Sikhs Might Have a Solution” that  “The Sikh approach toward gender participation in their houses of worship could be used as a spatial and ethical model for designing and implementing new policies in mosques. It would be wise for mosque authorities to reconsider the division of space in mosques and readjust it to satisfy the needs of modern Muslims.”

Originally, veil was introduced in Islam to distinguish free women from slave women. This only suggests that instead of doing something for the betterment of womanhood (slaves in this case) Mohammad further solidified the slavery because to him women were nothing more than property of men.  Although these days women are not categorized as “free” or “slave” but nonetheless Muslim women are required to wear veils to cover their “beauty” to save themselves from molestation.

“O; Prophet! Tell thy wives and thy daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks close round them (when they go outside).  That will be better, that so they may be recognized and not molested”. (33:59)

Does this not imply that men are naturally lustful beasts and have no control over their lustful needs? Why should women suffer just because men cannot show bit decency to womanhood? If Islam was all about equality then why aren’t men required to wear veil and cover themselves up? Is it because Quran assumes that women have no lustful thinking and are just robots wondering about in the world?

On the other hand, the Gurus gave Sikh men and women the same dress. Five symbols Kes (hair covered with turban), Kara (an iron bracelet), Kirpan (sword), Kangha (wooden comb) and Kacherra (an under short) are give to both men and women. Both are required to say the same prayers, live same way of life and wear the same dress. Everything is exactly the same. Sikh women are also not required or forced to wear a veil.

"Stay, stay, O daughter-in-law - do not cover your face with a veil. In the end, this shall not bring you even half a shell." (Ang 484)

iii)    Testimony – Lack of Common Sense

According to Mohammad, women lack common sense because their minds are deficient which is why Quran considers testimony of two women equivalent to a man. When questioned about this claim, his response was:

And get two witnesses of your own men, and if there are not two men then a man and two women such as you choose for witnesses - so that if one of them errs, the other can remind her...(2:182)

[Mohammad said]: O womenfolk, you should give charity and ask much forgiveness for I saw you in bulk amongst the dwellers of Hell. A wise lady among them said: Why is it, Messenger of Allah, that our folk is in bulk in Hell? Upon this the Holy Prophet observed: You curse too much and are ungrateful to your spouses. I have seen none lacking in common sense and failing in religion but (at the same time) robbing the wisdom of the wise, besides you. Upon this the woman remarked: What is wrong with our common sense and with religion? He (the Holy Prophet) observed: Your lack of common sense (can be well judged from the fact) that the evidence of two women is equal to one man, that is a proof of the lack of common sense. (Sahih Muslim, Abdul Hamid Siddiqi, tr., Number 142

The Prophet (the blessing and peace of Allah be upon him) said: "Isn’t the witness of a woman equal to half of that of a man?" The women said: "Yes." He said: "This is because of the deficiency of her mind."(Sahih Al-Bukhari, Dr. Muhammad Matraji, Number 2658)

In order to justify the above verses, Muslims have resorted to making excuses and presenting absurd claims. In “Why two women Witnesses” Shamshad. M. Khan claims that due to menstruation “women can experience extraordinary psychological strains giving rise to depression, lack of concentration, slow-mindedness and short term memory loss.”  This is a complete blasphemy and an insult to a woman. The verses clearly state that “women have deficient mind”. In other words, the verses apply to all women and not just to those in their menstrual cycle.  The verses make no exceptions for those who are not having menstruation or have reached menopause. Thus, it is clear that women in general are believed to be inferior and unintelligent in Islam.

If two women witnesses are equal to one man then are four women witnesses equal to two men? This should completely eliminate the need for a male witness. But in Islam, male witness is required. If a male was to enter women’s dormitory and rape a woman he will not be charged of anything and will be safe since there would be no male witness present there. Thus, this shows inequality and injustice of Islam.

iv)    Wives and Slaves

Although this point was clearly presented in the original article (Sikhism and Islam), we present more evidence to prove that keeping sex slaves and beating wives is permissible in Islam.

a)     Owning and Raping Slave Women

Buying and selling of women as sex slaves is fully permitted in Islam. It is a perfectly a legitimate way to acquire as many sex-slaves as possible.  Sky is not the limit, though.  The only limitation is the affordability. One may say that this type of flesh trading is no more practiced today.  This is true. However, nothing can prevent the Islamists from re-introducing the slave markets as per Qur’an and Sunnah when their ‘Jihad’ against the infidels is successful. Sexual slavery is absolutely legitimate in Islam. If Islam conquered the world, slavery could have never been eradicated, because Islamic laws are written on granite stone and are absolutely unchangeable.

The Believers must (Eventually) win through—Those who humble themselves In their prayers; Who avoid vain talk; Who are active in deeds Of charity; Who abstain from sex, Except with those joined To them in the marriage bond, Or (the captives) whom Their right hands possess—For (in their case) they are Free from blame. (23:1-6)

O Prophet! We have made lawful to thee thy wives to whom thou hast paid their dowers; and those whom thy right hand possesses out of prisoners of war whom God has assigned to thee; (33:50)

You can have sexual intercourse with two slave girls at a time without ghusl (bath) but can’t do like this with free women…(Malik’s Muwatta 2.23.90)

Terms “right hand possesses” refer to captives in Jihad. Thus it is established that in Islam it is not only permissible to have slave girls but also use them for sexual intercourse. Can Muslims on any moral ground defend this barbaric and old age thinking?

Furthermore, Mohammad also encouraged the rape of captured women in front of their husbands:

“Abu Sa'id al-Khudri said: The Apostle of Allah (may peace be upon him) sent a military expedition to Awtas on the occasion of the battle of Hunain. They met their enemy and fought with them.  They defeated them and took them captives.  Some of the Companions of the Apostle of Allah (may peace be upon him) were reluctant to have intercourse with the female captives in the presence of their husbands who were unbelievers.  So Allah, the Exalted, send down the Qur'anic verse: "And all married women (are forbidden) unto you save those (captives) whom your right hand possess." (4:24)

Mohammad himself had a Coptic slave that was presented to him by the ruler of Alexandria in Egypt.  When the delegate from Mohammad visited this Coptic head of Egypt (Muaqaqis) with an invitation for him to convert to Islam he politely refused to do so, but knowing the taste of Mohammad, he presented Mohammad with two beautiful slave-girls who were sisters.  Mohammad took for himself Mariya, the most beautiful one and gave her sister, Sirin, to his poet friend, Hassan ibn Thabit for him to enjoy her.  Please note that neither Mohammad nor Hasan b. Thabit married these slave-girls.  Mariya gave birth to Ibrahim, Mohammad’s last child who died in infancy.  Sirin bore a son named Abdul Rahman to Hassan, the poet (ref. 10, p. 498-499).  All these historical records are absolute proof that enjoying a female slave is totally ‘halal’ in Islam. You can read more about immoral sex and sexuality in Islam on

It is foolish to still follow Mohammad for whom captive women were a mere property that could be used in any way possible. This is a stark contrast to Satguru Nanak’s example.  When the King of Sangladeep sent dancing girls to entertain and seduce Guru Nanak, Guru Sahib said,

O princess, my daughter, run away from this place!
Chant the True Name, and embellish your days.
Serve your Beloved Lord God, and lean on the Support of His Love.
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, abandon your thirst for corruption and poison. ||7||

The concept of slavery or sexual relations outside of marriage is absolutely forbidden in Sikhism, unlike in Islam.

b)       Treatment of Wife

The Quran not only considers women to be pollution and impure but allows men to beat their wives into subservience. If a wife doesn’t listen to her husband, the husband should admonish her. If that doesn’t work, he is to make her sleep in a separate bed. If the wife still doesn’t respect her husband’s authority, even after she has been banished to another bed, the husband is told to physically punish her. Consider three translations of the following verse:

Men are the protectors And maintainers of women, Because Allah has given The one more (strength) Than the other, and because They support them From their means. Therefore the righteous women Are devoutly obedient, and guard in (the husband’s) absence What Allah would have them guard. As to those women On whose part ye fear Disloyalty and ill-conduct, Admonish them (first), (Next), refuse to share their beds, (And last) beat them (lightly); But if they return to obedience, Seek not against them Means (of annoyance): For Allah is Most High, Great (above you all). (4:34)

Muslim translators have struggled with this passage and have sought ways to water down its clear meaning by adding words like “if necessary” and "lightly", which do not occur in the original Arabic. Even after the addition of such word, the verse still allows husbands to beat their wives. This is fully supported by Muslim scholars.

"God established the superiority of men over women by the above verse (the Qur'an 4:34) which prevents the equating of men and women. For here man is above the woman due to his intellectual superiority and his ability to administer and spend on the woman." (Tuffaha, Ahmad Zaky, Al-Mar'ah wal- Islam, Dar al-Kitab al-Lubnani, Beirut, first edition, 1985, p.36)

Women are considered a sex toy in Islam.

"Your wives are as a tilth (a field to be ploughed) unto you, so approach your tilth when or how ye will." (2:223)

Umar [one of the Caliphs] was once talking when his wife interjected, so he said to her: 'You are a toy; if you are needed we will call you.' (Al-Musanaf Vol. 1 Part 2, p. 263)

Thus it leaves no doubt that Islamic teachings are all about men’s sex satisfaction and women presenting themselves to fulfill the desires of their husbands to avoid the cursing of the angels.

Another contemporary scholar wrote:

"The marriage contract is designed by the legislator so that the husband may benefit from the sexual organ of the woman and the rest of her body for the purpose of pleasure. As such the husband owns by the marriage contract, this exclusive benefit." ('Abd ar-Rahman al-Gaziri, al-Fiqh 'ala al-Mazahib al-Arba'a, Dar al-Kutub al- 'Elmeyah, 1990, vol. 4, p. 7)

Any rational person can see how Islam degrades women and equates them to nothing more than a sexual object. On the other hand, Gurmat principles are far more superior and perfectly fit in the modern society. Women are given utmost respect and equal rights by Guru Sahib.

"We are born of woman, we are conceived in the womb of woman, and we are engaged and married to woman. We make friendship with woman and the lineage continued because of woman. When one woman dies, we take another one, we are bound with the world through woman. Why should we talk ill of her, who gives birth to kings? The woman is born from woman; there is none without her. Only the One True Lord is without woman" (Ang 473)

Guru Sahib put a high importance in marriage which is not merely a physical and legal contract but a holy union between two souls where physically they appear as two individual bodies but in fact are united as one. Guru Sahib taught that our married life should also be molded on the ideal laid down for our union with Waheguru. The bride and bridegroom then share their life, happiness and sorrow; from two individuals they become 'Ek Jot Doe Murti' meaning one spirit in two bodies.

They are not said to be husband and wife, who merely sit together. They alone are called husband and wife, who have one light in two bodies. ||3|| (Siri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, Ang 788)

All the religious rights bestowed upon men are also given to women equally.

"Woman is one half the complete personality of man, and is entitled to share secular and spiritual knowledge equally." (Bhai Gurdas Ji, Var 5, Pauri 16:59)

c)    Afterlife – Paradise or Hell

In Islam, Muslim men are offered great rewards such as 72 virgins, rivers of wine and milk and sex slaves in paradise. However, such rewards do not exist for women. On the contrary, majority of the women are in hell due to their “lack of sense” and “unintelligence”.

The Prophet (the blessing and peace of Allah be upon him) said: "I saw paradise and stretched my hands towards a bunch (of its fruits) and had I taken it, you would have eaten from it as long as the world remains. I also saw the Hell-fire and I had never seen such a horrible sight. I saw that most of the inhabitants were women." The people asked: "O Allah’s Apostle! Why is it so?" The Prophet (the blessing and peace of Allah be upon him) said: "Because of their ungratefulness." It was asked whether they are ungrateful to Allah. The Prophet (the blessing and peace of Allah be upon him) said: "They are ungrateful to their companions of life (husbands) and ungrateful to good deeds." (Ibid, Number 1052)

[Mohammad said], "O women! Give to charity, for I have seen that the majority of the dwellers of Hell-Fire were women." The women asked, "O Allah’s Apostle! What is the reason for it?" He said: "O women! You curse frequently, and are ungrateful to your husbands. I have not seen anyone more deficient in intelligence and religion than you. O women, some of you can lead a cautious man astray." (Ibid, Number 1462)

Even if women were to stop cursing, start thanking their husbands and being obedient, their prospects for the afterlife would still leave much to be desired. According to Mohammad, Muslim women can look forward to an eternity of standing in corners, waiting for men to come and have sex with them:

Allah’s Apostle (The blessing and peace of Allah be upon him) said: "In Paradise there is a pavilion made of a single hollow pearl sixty miles wide, in each corner of which there are wives who will not see those in the other corners; and the believers will visit and enjoy them.” (Ibid, Number 4879)

This proves that the only reward for an obedient woman who is loyal to her husband in paradise is to have the opportunity to continue their sexual service to their husbands in "Paradise." If Islam was a religion of equality then why don’t the women have the same reward? Why don’t they get 72 virgin men and rivers of wine? Why don’t they get sex slaves as promised to Muslim men?

d)     Unjust Punishments

A case of an 11 year old girl was presented in the original article which Muslims claimed to be a fabrication. We present some more cases which show how young innocent girls fall victim of Islamic law. Although no country follows Islamic law 100% but most of the laws have been adopted in most of the Islamic countries.

Case 1 – An 11 year old girl was abducted, raped and then sold.

Case 2 – 12 year old Rahima was abducted and raped but the authorities served no justice.

Case 3 - Atefah Sahaaleh, a 16 year old in Iran was charged with “crimes against chastity” and hanged in public. The authorities reported her to be 22 years old. From the evidence it was clear that she was victim of rape and torture. Documentary on her case can be seen here.

Many more cases can be presented but do Muslims have answers to these cases? If this is against Islam then why aren’t the perpetrators being punished in Islamic countries? In Saudi Arabia, women cannot even drive cars. Women have to cover themselves up from head to toe. Women cannot go out without asking their husbands and when they do, they have to be accompanied by someone else (a male). In other words, women cannot walk freely outside their house. Is this not inequality being practiced in the birth place of Islam? There are many Islamic countries in the world and if Islamic law is revealed by God then why haven’t Muslims themselves adopted this law in their own countries? The answer is very simple, because it only leads a country to become a third world, corrupted and land of injustice. Adopting man-made laws have proved to be much better than that of Quran’s.

Thus it is crystal clear that Islam is no way a religion of equality. Islam considers women to be property that lacks common sense, intelligence and serves as booty in paradise. On the contrary, Sikhi makes no distinction between men and women. Both have equal rights when it comes to religious practices and reward in afterlife.

This leaves no doubt that only Sikhi is a religion of modern age and light years ahead of Islam. The only way for Muslim women to get equal rights and enjoy freedom is by renouncing an old aged religion Islam and adopting Sikh way of life.

Point 3 - Polygamy and Divorce

  1. Polygamy

Polygamy is not only an unfair practice but a great injustice to women. If Islam is all about equality then the same right must be given to women. Why should men have the right to keep multiple wives for no reason? Had the principle of equality existed in Islam women would’ve been given the same rights with same conditions. It is not as if all women are or were poor. For example, Khadija, Mohammad’s first wife, was a wealthy woman.

As an interesting footnote, Islam was the first religion to introduce a limitation on Number of Wives. Hindus, Christians, Jews and other Idolaters had no restrictions on the number of wives they could have according to their scriptures.

Then why was Mohammad made an exception? Why did he have 12 wives besides sex slaves and concubines? Was Allah’s so-called “revealed” message not for him? Mohammad is perhaps the first and the only “prophet” who did not live the very message he “delivered”. Guru Sahib on the other hand lived the lifestyle He preached to humanity.

  1. Divorce

Divorce in Sikhism is considered a very grave matter.  When the marriage takes place the husband and wife agree in the presence of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee to stay with each other and love and honour each other for life.  If marital discord takes place, the community intervenes.  Panj Pyaaray can be asked to help resolve the situation. In the extreme and very rare case where one side simply refuses to reconcile one party may ask the permission of the Sangat or Panj Pyaaray to divorce and re-marry.

The author is focused on the absence of instructions for divorce in Sikh scripture.  We repeat:  Sri Guru Granth Sahib jee does not cover the intricacies of such mundane non-spiritual matters.  But how is this discriminatory to women if there is no written system for divorce that affects both men and women equally?Sikhi teaches us how to become rational and moral beings. Guru Sahib has taught His Sikhs how to think in a moral way. This shows how much free thinking Guru Sahib has given to His Sikhs. It is a fact that divorce is not a simple thing as it involves lives of two human beings. There can be many different situations and circumstances related to divorce. Stating every different situation is ridiculous because a divorce can involve a simple reason to many complex reasons. There can be numerous possible solutions to one case. Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee is not a rule book. Gurbani teaches us how to think and how to tackle every problem and find the best solution possible. This is why Guru Sahib gave the power to Sikhs to make decisions that are best for everyone. Gurbani gives freedom of free thinking whereas archaic and inflexible rules would not.

On the other hand, it is Islamic laws that not only make women suffer and cause them pain but trap them in loveless marriages. If a man says “Talaq” three times to his wife, they have to get divorced. This cannot be reversed which makes it clear that any Muslim under the influence of frustration or anger can simply destroy the relationship and the lives of his children. A woman on the other hand has no right or say in this. If Islam was really all about equality then the woman would also have the right to say the same word three times to get a divorce. But this is not the case. Man has more rights and final say. There is little to no room for thinking and communication. Once the word “Talaq” has been said it brings the hell process only for women. Divorced woman cannot remarry her previous husband. She first has to marry someone else, consummate the marriage and get divorce in the same manner and only then she can remarry her previous husband.

This practice of inequality makes women suffer so much. Assume a man says “Talaq” three times in anger and gets a divorce. Now, he wants to remarry his wife and the woman wants the same as they both love each other very much. But this cannot happen. The woman has to marry someone else and consummate the marriage. If she gets a divorce from her newlywed husband only then she can remarry love of her life. If her new husband refuses to give divorce, her whole life is ruined and she is forced to spend her life with someone she doesn’t love. This is what traps a woman in a loveless marriage because the husband has no such punishment. Even if the woman gets a divorce the very next day, she still has to undergo humiliation as she will have to spend a night with someone she doesn’t consider her life partner. It is a woman who gets trapped, punishment and is forced to go through humiliating and barbaric process. Where is the so-called equality? It exists no where in Islam.

Point 4 – Waheguru is Everywhere

Singh makes a ridiculous accusation of Muslims, which is that “Muslims face the west, towards the Qibla, because God lives there.” Again, this is entirely a creation of his own mind. How can an omnipresent creator “live” in the first place, or inhabit a small area of his own creation? This defeats logic and rationality.

Then perhaps Muslims can explain the reason for facing towards Qibla. What good purpose can facing a certain direction serve? How does it increase one’s spirituality? If for Muslims god is everywhere then why not face any direction? What was the reason behind changing the direction of facing from Jerusalem to Kaaba?

For Sikhs to state that God is “all pervading and is in all directions. God is omniscient, omnipotent and loves all”, what does that mean? When they say God is pervading, Do they mean God is in impure things, such as excreta? Do they mean that God is in an Adulterer, or a Murderer?  When they say God loves everyone, do they mean Non-Sikhs as well?

The answer is very simple: the light of God is within everyone and can be discovered by meditation on Naam. Waheguru (God) loves all because He is without hatred unlike Allah in Islam.

Amongst all is the Light-You are that Light. By this Illumination, that Light is radiant within all. Through the Guru's Teachings, the Light shines forth. That which is pleasing to Him is the lamp-lit worship service. ||3|| (Ang 13)

What is pure and what impure? To God nothing is pure and nothing is impure.  Animal excreta are used for burning when dried, and as manure it is spread over fields, which is absorbed by the plants whose fruits and crops we eat. Once we eat this, we excrete this back out. So God’s cycle is the nitrogen cycle as you read in science. We breathe nitrogen, excrete nitrogen, and that nitrogen goes into the soil, which goes into the plants and those plants we eat again. So what is excrement and what is impure? If you think excreta are impure then you shouldn’t eat crops, fruits or even drink water, which is full of animals and organisms’ excreta. For a Sikh the source is God and everything merges back in God.

We ask Muslims: If Allah created earth then did he not create everything that exists in the earth including excreta, tobacco and wine which is considered haram (unlawful) in Islam on earth but this haram is given as a reward in paradise? If Muslims believe that source of God’s light is not in everyone (murderers or adulterers) then doesn’t that make God limited? In the article Muslims have stated that God is omnipresent and then ask if God is in excreta? On one hand, they say God is the creator of the creation and on the other hand limit Him to only “pure” things? It is God who has created human beings then we must ask: Who created the “impure substance” (blood)in the human body?

Muslims raised an objection on the characteristic of God.

Sikhs also believe that God takes the form of a man in their scriptures, but how can this be? How can the Creator limit himself to a creation, and then serve the creation?

Muslims have failed to understand the implied meanings. According to Sikhi, God has no form of His own but all forms belong to Him. In other words, He has created every form in the world and has the power to assume any form without taking birth. God in Sikhi is not limited to a distant place called heaven but is present everywhere and has all the powers. The Shabad implies that God is our father and mother and takes care of us in every way. He gives us birth and provides food to eat and gives us libration. This is not a service but His love for us. He takes care of us and saves us if the need arise.

Point 5 - Sikh Beliefs of Worship

Singh claims that Sikhs follow no fasting or pilgrimages. This is completely untrue. Sikhs celebrate “Hola Mohalla”, which involves military exercises, mock battles, and a festival of poetry, song and dance, and is held at Anandpur Sahib.

Holla Mohalla is not a pilgrimage as this is a misunderstanding of Muslims. Holla Mohalla is not considered a spiritual journey. It is a festival that is celebrated where Sikhs show their martial arts skills. Neither it is a requirement for Sikhs to attend nor does it signify any spiritual enlightenment.

Of all religions, the best religion is to chant the Name of the Lord and maintain pure conduct. Of all religious rituals, the most sublime ritual is to erase the filth of the dirty mind in the Company of the Holy. Of all efforts, the best effort is to chant the Name of the Lord in the heart, forever. Of all speech, the most ambrosial speech is to hear the Lord's Praise and chant it with the tongue. Of all places, the most sublime place, O Nanak, is that heart in which the Name of the Lord abides. ||8||3|| (Ang 266)

Hence, it is clear that in Gurbani the best ritual and pilgrimage is to chant Naam.

In addition to this, Sikhs are expected to visit the “Golden Temple”, in Amritsar. It is described as “a living symbol of the spiritual and historical traditions of the Sikhs. It is a source of inspiration for all Sikhs and their chief place of pilgrimage.” (

This again is a misunderstanding. First of all, neither the website nor do the Muslims give any reference to prove that visiting Darbar Sahib is equivalent to pilgrimage to Mecca. Darbar Sahib in Amritsar is the religious center of Sikhs and visiting such a holy place is considered a very holy act but there is no requirement stated in Gurbani, Rehatnamas or Tankahnamas to make a pilgrimage to Darbar Sahib and perform certain rituals. Instead, Gurbani is clear on the stance that contemplating on Naam is the best pilgrimage.

Why should I bathe at sacred shrines of pilgrimage? The Naam, the Name of the Lord, is the sacred shrine of pilgrimage. My sacred shrine of pilgrimage is spiritual wisdom within, and contemplation on the Word of the Shabad. The spiritual wisdom given by the Guru is the True sacred shrine of pilgrimage, where the ten festivals are always observed. I constantly beg for the Name of the Lord; grant it to me, O God, Sustainer of the world. The world is sick, and the Naam is the medicine to cure it; without the True Lord, filth sticks to it. The Guru's Word is immaculate and pure; it radiates a steady Light. Constantly bathe in such a true shrine of pilgrimage. ||1|| (Ang 687)

On the other hand, pilgrimage to Mecca is required for Muslims and every Muslim is required to perform certain rituals. Darbar Sahib was built by Guru Sahib Himself whereas Mecca had already existed before Mohammad and hajj was a very common pagan practice.

Furthermore, Darbar Sahib is open to everyone. Spirituality and peace that the place offers can be enjoyed by everyone as there is no discrimination in Sikhi. Hence, it spiritually benefits whosoever seeks it. On the other hand, non-Muslims are not allowed to go Mecca. Does it become filthy or unholy if non-Muslims go near it? Pagans and other non-Muslims used to visit Mecca even during the times of Mohammad which was stopped later due to “revelation” of the following verse.

In a late Medinan Surah 9:28: “O ye who believe! Truly the pagans are unclean, so let them not, after this year of theirs, approach the Sacred Mosque.”

Islam teaches Muslims to fast during the special month of Ramadan. It is this month that Muslims have the opportunity to get closer to God. But the question is: why this special month? If this is the only month to get closer to God then what is point for Muslims doing five prayers a day for the rest of the eleven months?

Point 6 – Dowry

In actual fact, In Islam the Dowry is firstly paid by the Grooms family, in order to provide for the Bride should a tragedy befall him, or a divorce be requested. It means that money will be available to tide over the Bride in cases of hardship. There is nothing morally wrong with such a device. Far crueller is to provide nothing to the Bride and for her to fend for herself, as the Guru appears to advise, should tragedy strike!

The whole concept of giving money in marriage is simply a nonsensical one. The above quote presents many flaws. It not only poses women as dependent helpless creatures but also takes away their freedom of being self-dependent. From the above quote it is clear that Muslims believe women to be always depending on men for money and assume that women are somehow incapable of working a job and make a life. In Sikhi, marriage is not about money but living together and progressing together in spirituality. Assuming household responsibilities for woman is not obligatory but a choice. There is nothing in Sikhi that prevents women from having a job and providing food and shelter for themselves and the family. Muslim practice encourages male-dependency in women whereas Sikhi gives life of freedom and sense of independence to women.

Even if such practice provides security to women, after divorce woman only gets half of man’s portion according to inheritance laws of Islam which again is disadvantageous to women.

Point 7 – Sikhi, a complete Way of Life

Sikhism is given a clear "Theo-democratic" system of law. Guru Gobind Singh jee, the Tenth Master, in his farsightedness knew that not all crimes are the same and thus no one punishment can be given for them at all: does the thief who steals bread due to hunger receive same punishment as one who steals a car due to greed? No! Thus Guru jee said:

"The Khalsa is my true form, I abide within the Khalsa"

Guru Jee gave power to decide these things to the Khalsa in the form of the Panj Piaaray (5 initiated selected Sikhs). The Panj Piaaray look at each case and then give a case-by-case decision. There are no blanket amputations for everyone as some religions may prescribe. There are rehitnaamas and tankhaahnaamas (edicts and codes of conduct) dictated by Guru Gobind Singh jee that clearly outline what is right and what is wrong. For example, adultery is a 'bujjar kurehat', a cardinal sin, for which a Sikh is excommunicated from the Panth (community) and if they wish to become a member of the Panth again, they must then present themselves before the Panj Piaaray to be re-initiated and given corrective measures.

Even beyond the rehitnaamas and tankhaahnamas, there is the concept of Miri-Piri: temporal and spiritual aspects to Gurmat, i.e. a theo-political system. Guru Hargobind Sahib jee gave us the Sikh parliament of Sri Akaal Takhat. The Sarbat Khalsa (entire Khalsa) is the parliament and the motions passed are called "Gurmattas". A system of passing gurmattas is carried out by consulting Sri Guru Granth Sahib jee and then voting on each motion. The Five Takhats are the Centers of Sikh power with the main headquarter being Sri Akaal Takhat. The Five Jathehdars (representatives) are the "cabinet" of the Panth and organise the Panth's movement. The Jathehdaar of Sri Akaal Takhat (Amritsar) has power as spokesperson of the Panth. Akaalee Baba Phoola Singh, for example, was Jathehdaar during Maharaja Ranjeet Singh's time and gave him punishment of a fine and a caning due to his adultery.

Thus it is clear that Sikhism does have a law in Rehitnaamas and tankhaahnaamas along with the Rehit (code of discipline), which is given during Amrit Sanchaar (initiation ceremonies). Local decisions are to be taken by Panj Piaaray, which can be appealed to the Takhats, and Sri Akaal Takhat takes final decisions. The collective Sikh parliament is Sarbat Khalsa and motions are called Gurmattas.

  • How much tax should I pay in a Sikh State, as a Non-Sikh?

Sikhs do not believe in a Jaiziya system like the Muslims where non-Sikhs must pay to ensure their protection. This question therefore is moot.  The taxation system in a Sikh state is the same for non-Sikhs and Sikhs.

  • What is the ruling in Sikhism regarding testimony in a court?

A Sikh is to always speak the truth. Unlike in Islam (where the testimony of one man is equal to a testimony of four women), a man’s testimony is equal to a woman’s testimony

  • What is the ruling in Sikhism regarding the sentence for stealing?

Depends on the nature of the crime and how it was committed and why.  The answer is given by the Panj Pyaaray based on each case.  This is a stark contrast to default amputations of limbs like the Muslims.

  • What is the ruling in Sikhism regarding the age of maturity?

Each person matures at a different rate.  If there is a need to determine this, the question is brought to the Panj Pyaaray.

  • What is the ruling in Sikhism regarding my relations with my neighbour?

Sikhism teaches to treat all humans with kindness and compassion be they your neighbour or anyone else.

  • What is the ruling in Sikhism regarding how I should treat an animal?

Guru Granth Sahib teaches, “Show kindness and mercy to all life and realize that the Lord is pervading everywhere; this is the way of life of the enlightened soul, the supreme swan. ||7||” (Ang 508)

  • What is the ruling in Sikhism regarding lawful earnings?

Sikhs are taught to earn their living through honesty without infringing on the rights of anyone else.  One of the fundamental principles of Sikhism is “kirat karo” or to earn an honest living.  Eating food earned through cheating is equal to eating the carcass of a dead animal (Ang 15).  Furthermore, earnings should be shared with others and the Sikh system of Dasvandh or 10% of all income being donated is mandatory on all believers.  “Through hard work make your earnings and eat, and also give something to others from your hand.  Such a person has found the true path” (Ang 1245).

  • What is the ruling in Sikhism regarding killing a non-Sikh and the punishment for that?

Each case is presented before the Panj Pyaaray and based on the merits of the case a ruling is given.

  • What is the ruling in Sikhism regarding riding a horse?

What need would there be for a “ruling” on such a trivial issue?  Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee is concerned with the salvation of the soul and light of God.  God has blessed humans with common sense and intellect.  Riding horses etc. are mundane issues that simple human intellect can resolve.

  • What is the ruling in Sikhism if I use a nuclear weapon?

What is the Islamic ruling?  This is a plainly foolish question.

As you can see, Sikhism is a complete and rational way of life.  Each situation is judged on its merits as opposed to blanket amputations for crimes like theft (as the Muslims would have it).

Point 8 - Openness of Religious Place

This has been discussed already. Once again, Sikh Gurdwara is open to all where everyone regardless of religion can come and find peace but on the contrary this is not the case in Islam. Women only pray in secluded rooms and non-Muslims are not allowed to enter Mosques or go to Mecca.

In a late Medinan Surah 9:28: “O ye who believe! Truly the pagans are unclean, so let them not, after this year of theirs, approach the Sacred Mosque.”

Point 9 - Eating Meat

Consuming meat is considered highly immoral in Sikhi for the reason being that Sikhs should show mercy upon all the living beings and not cruelly butcher the animals. There is no mercy in killing an animal if there are hundreds of other things we can eat. Slitting the throat of an animal, causing it an immense pain and letting it die slowly is an act of cruelty not of mercy. A merciful person doesn’t kill living beings for the sake of taste. Muslims have presented three “factors” which are neither based on Islamic beliefs nor present any morality.

  1. Our teeth set is that of an Omnivore, as opposed to a Herbivore

Having teeth of both carnivore and herbivore does not prove anything. The issue here is of morality. Human, as moral beings, are not supposed to kill animals as alternative food can be obtained.

  1. Our digestive tract can dissolve meat

Once again, it proves nothing. Is this the reason used by Mohammad in Quran to justify meat? Absolutely not. In fact, human digestive system, requirement of fiber, saliva, and shape and length of intestines are much similar to herbivore as opposed to carnivores.

  1. Meat contains all 8 amino acids required for the human body to function

There are many other foods that can provide all the nutritious requirements.

The question is very simple: Why would God allow humans to kill His creation in His name? Does killing animals (creation) please God (the creator)? Eating meat is not justified on any moral ground.

Point 10 - Circumcision

Muslims state that circumcision is not obligatory but this directly contradicts with Islamic law.

“Circumcision is obligatory for both men and women.” (The Classic Manual of Islamic Sacred Law ‘Umdat al-Salik by Ahmad ibn Naqib al-Misri (d. 769/1368) in Arabic with Facing English Text, Commentary, and Appendices Edited and Translated by Nuh Ha Mim Keller, Page 59)

Hence it is clear that the above quote does not make any exceptions. Even if there was an exception for converts then this is a contradiction to the original requirement. Why have it required for one and then make an exception for another. In Sikhi, one can become a Sikh by taking Amrit which is an easy process and requires no exceptions for anyone. Whereas Islam requires a painful process of altering the design of God, Sikhi offers a path of peace and living according to will of God.

In conclusion, there is no other correct path except Sikhi. The only way to get salvation is by getting Naam from Satguru Nanak Sahib Ji and living the true way of life as taught by Guru Sahib. Unlike Islam, Sikhi is a path of love, peace, unity, tolerance and equality. Sikhi teaches a complete way of life full of spirituality and true happiness. We invite our Muslim brothers to give up their false hopes given to them by Islam and adopt Sikhi, a way of life for modern age.
